Almost lost my job, by doing my job

Last month we had our audit. Unfortunatly, it was not as good as I had hoped.
I know I have done the best I could with the time given; though this does not prevent a dissapointed feeling.
But hey! New year, New chances!

The audit was not the reason of this post by the way.

A few weeks before  I had found a few security flaws, of which atleast two were applicable to the whole of europe. I had created a document which proofed this, and sent it to the right departement in the Europe HQ. Apparently, someone felt assaulted by my findings and had escaleted this to the head IT of the entire organisation! It was said that I had performed a “terrorist attack”. I thought this was crazy. I had helped them out by uncovering flaws in the system ( and was extremely discrete ), and they wanted me fired for this.

Fortunatly, at one point there was decided that I had no such intent and therefore was cleared ( atleast, for now :-)

Yes in some countries you could actually be prosecuted for just doing a port scan. Or using wifi on a open access point. Each country has very different IT laws.
