Google streetview catches robbers

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

In September 2008 a 14 year old boy had been robbed in a street in the Dutch city of Groningen.

After he pressed charges, the police could not find the two responsible for the robbery.Until a few months ago, when the boy found himself and his robbers on google streetview.

He then notified the police who after identification arrested the two.

Personally, I am not a proponent of Google streetview because of the privacy issues but in this case it was good to have them at the right place at the right time.

A new way to be spammed

Who doesn’t remember the old MacGyver series, in which Angus MacGyver always found a way of getting him self out of a difficult situation with minimal tools available to him.
Last week, I had the dubious honour of feeling a bit like him.

Saturday morning, my mobile phone rang. A colleague had discovered the (double)airco had malfunctioned in the server room, and several machines had shutdown because of it.
I jumped in my car and drove over there. My colleague who had already arrived had put a mobile airco unit in the room, but I saw that because the hose was to short all hot air could not properly be disposed.

To find a solution for this until the Airco company arrived, I decided the hose should be extend.
But how? Then I noticed a couple of boxes in which toners had been transported.
Together with a letter opener ( I couldn’t find a knife nearby ) and some tape I created this:

Luckily no devices had been damaged permanently
